We often consider art as a hobby with no more value than having fun

Creating art can actually be a great way to improve your mental and emotional well-being.

In this video, lead facilitator of Celebrate Recovery, Jena Maldonado, details the many benefits to creating art. Jena shares how painting, drawing, and other forms of art can help us find joy in our accomplishments and be a way of consistently redirecting triggers. Whether you’re a longtime painter or just bought your first set of brushes, Jena urges you to take advantage of the benefits art can bring to your heart, mind and soul.

I always have confidence after I finish a piece because there is no “perfect art.” My perfect is different from somebody else’s perfect, so I always find joy in the accomplishment of my art. Art also teaches self-patience because sometimes you are going to smudge. You’re going to want to have patience to go around those lines, patience to accomplish what you’re trying to do.
